Crux

Check-in for climbing gyms.

The waiver on their phone. One tap at the desk. Who may belay, on one card.

The one thing a desk must see is whether this person is certified to belay and when they proved it. In the big gym systems that is one tab among forty. Crux is the desk's screen and nothing else: a name, a card, a tap.

For the climber

Sign once, on your phone.

  1. 1
    Open the link
From the sign on the counter, or the text the desk sends you. The gym’s own address, on your own phone.
  2. 2
    Sign in a minute
Your name, your email, a tick and a typed signature. No account, no app, no clipboard. A parent signs for a minor.
  3. 3
Show your code at the desk
Your card has a code. The desk scans it, or you say your name. One tap and you climb.

For the desk

One card. The answer is on it.

One card, one tap
Signed or not, which levels and when, which pass. Check in. A second tap checks out.
Refused with the next tap
No waiver? Send the waiver. No pass? Sell a pass. When something is missing, the refusal is the next action, not a search.
Certifications, dated and signed
A level is a row with a date and a signer, never a tag on a profile. You decide who may sign each level, and a level can require its signer to hold it.
Waivers that are versions
Rewrite the waiver and everyone signs again. A signature freezes the text it was signed on.
Day passes, punch cards, monthlies
Sold at the desk, cash or card on your own merchant account. A punch comes off when they check in; the card says how many are left.
The desk and the wall
Managers, the desk and setters. A setter signs off the level they just watched someone climb, and never touches the money.
A face beside the name
The desk takes a photo once. It shows on the card, in the list and on the climber’s page.
On your own domain
The waiver page can live at yourgym.com, with your logo and your colour.

What Crux isn't.

  • a route database
  • a logbook
  • a point of sale
  • a membership engine with freezes and families

The all-in-one gym systems do all of that and the desk pays for it in tabs. Crux does the one job and gets out of the way.

Honest about today.

  • The waiver on their phone, versioned, a parent signing for a minor.
  • The desk card, check-in and check-out, a till for passes and the shelf — cash, your own terminal, or a card charged on your own account — with a cash drawer and refunds.
  • The climber's own card on their phone, with the code the desk scans.
  • Certifications with who may sign each, and the signer's own record.
  • Staff, the gym's public page, and your own domain.

Not yet: text messages. The waiver link and the card go by email for now. When it ships, it'll be here.
